Bob Guccione RIP. A tribute to Penthouse magazine!

Sadly, one of the greatest humans on the planet, Bob Guccione, has pasted on, but luckily for us, he left a long legacy of incredible jerk off material. If all porn except for Penthouse magazine disappeared from the earth I would have no problem finding plenty of inspiration for private self-love sessions.

Penthouse magazine has the reputation of being much raunchier than its rival Playboy but I don’t think that’s exactly accurate, at least not up until the 90s when everyone started competing with hardcore porn movies. I would argue that Penthouse was sexual while Playboy was kind of sterile. Don’t get me wrong, I jerked off to both magazines A LOT in high school but, looking back, I can now see that Playboy was selling pretty girls and Penthouse was selling SEX!

[Huge Penthouse gallery after the jump]

Penthouse was selling sex but it was more subtle than you might think. Sure, Penthouse would “show more” but Guccione’s magazine was better at the art of the tease than you might think. Penthouse knew how to present seduction in a less obvious way than Playboy and the end result was fucking sexy! They even found a way to make people masturbate to the written word thanks to the “true” stories found in “Forum.” Holy shit, Forum was as fucking hot as the pictorials!

Current pornographers should learn a thing or two from Bob Guccione. Less really can be much more when it comes to the erotic arts. Rest in peace Bob and thank you for some of the best self-induced orgasms of my life!

Why Penthouse is awesome:
- Huge fuzzy bush
- Fur Coats
- Nude girls on the beach literally fucking the ocean
- Girls only wearing the top half of bikinis
- Pool Floats!
- 1/2 open robes and shirts
- Lesbians
- Lace gloves (you know you miss them)
- TAN LINES!
- Finally, my favorite, the hand lazily touching the vagina

Brings back memories of high school. Although I don’t miss the vintage bush, it was nice to see the lack of silicone.

Roy – High five for real tits! Gotta say though, I kind of miss bush. Not the President, but the giant hair pie. I guess it’s because I was a teen in the 80s and jerked off to a ton of fuzzy pussies.

OMG – I actually recognize 30-40% of these pictures from the 80s. I am not sure if I should be sad or what LOL. We take our porn for granted nowadays. Good post anyway.

Mr. Furley – First let me say you are an excellent landlord. Secondly, yes, going back through these old photos made me realize how much Penthouse meant to me as a teen. I mean I jerked it to A LOT to those layouts. While putting this gallery together, I honestly did come to the conclusion that Penthouse really was WAY more erotic than Playboy. Penthouse knew how to sell sex! Glad you enjoyed the gallery.

Why were Guccione’s photos so powerfully erotic? He was a fine craftsman, of course, but more important, I think he truly liked/admired/desired the young women he photographed. He was not exploiting them, but celebrating them. BIG difference, and it shows in the results. I’d be interested to hear from former Penthouse models to find out if I’m right.

Jared – Absolutely. Most new porn sucks because it’s basically just rape. I don’t understand this trend to hate women and treat them like dirt. Just go to a porn tube site and look at the titles of all the clips… “Bitch etas a cock,” or “Stupid whore takes it up the ass.” It didn’t use to be that way. The women were put up on a pedestal and were something to aspire to, not something to treat like shit. I fear for the young girls growing up now because the guys they will be dating have been raised on all of this abusive porn.

The BEST sex you will EVER have is when you treat a woman right.

Dear Guy….The paragraph that you wrote on Dec. 24th 2010 made me so happy. Women do love feeling sexy. I never thought that the pictorials in Penthouse degraded women. These days porn is scary. I miss the 70′s. I grew up as a healthy female who really liked guys and had a great attitude toward sex….and I did see a lot of Penthouse. Thank you for celebrating us ladies instead of wanting to hurt us. We love you right back ! Cheers to Bob G. for getting it right most of the time. And yes, straight women and their husbands to read your site !! xoxo

As a fifty year old male I can vivdly remember seeing a Penthouse magazine for the first time in the early 70′s. What an eye opener compared to Playboy! To actually see a woman’s bush as opposed to the hidden or covered up Playboy models and realize the beauty of what was every young man’s desire.
Unlike today there was little material for us to read and nothing on television so a magazine like Penthouse with those glorious unretouched photos, the now legendary Penthouse letters and of course Xavieria Hollander opened up a whole new world for many guys like myself. It literally answered question we couldn’t have gotten answered anywhere else.
I would like to think that Penthouse actually helped guys like me when we finally hooked up with a girl. I grew to appreciate the beauty and ultimate reward when making love to a woman if it was done with respect and patience.
That magazine will always have played an important part in my sexual development and I’m very appreciative of that.
